Curious about the age group swim here in March-i.e. what conditions will be like;what/where I could train in Auckland to simulate what will probably be a non-wetsuit swim?

The temperatures in Mooloolaba in March average about 24 - 26 degrees. It offers good conditions for racing, except on a sunny day the road radiates heat. Its not to dis-similar to a hot NZ day.

The swim is fully dependant on the weather at the time, in past years there has been quite a swell. It is a U shape course as Im sure your aware, so the first part is pretty shelted for about 150/200m, then you turn parallel to the beach and depending on the day it can be as calm as a pool, or 1m swells. Then you turn into the beach, if you have a little knowledge about rips and currents it can help here as you dont want to get caught swimming into one. Hot tip - if the Aussies arnt going straight for the beach, probably a good option to follow them! However, if you can catch a nice swell, you can have about a 200m break before you hit the sand. NB, there is about a 130m run to T1.

The bike is relatively flat, with a killer short hill in the middle...

The run is the same...

And you can wear your wetsuit if you want to, the water temp will be about 22*
