Hi there,

Well I have my feet up at the moment as my legs are still bloody sore! It was fantastic to win my 4th New Zealand Ironman and now I'm having a well earned rest. Race day dawned cold but dry, it has been a terrible February so it was nice to get some great weather on race day.

I had a great swim to exit in 5th place, over three minutes down on the leader. Out onto the bike course it got even colder with fog making the temperture drop to around 10c! There was no wind at that stage but as we made the turn back home the wind started to pick up and would get stronger and stronger as the day went on, after 50km I made it into 2nd place but the Swede Bjorn Anderson was smashing a huge gear to increase his now massive lead, I was joined by Norman Stadler at the 60km mark and tried to stay with him but he slowly rode of into the distance before pulling out at the 140km mark.

I was off the bike in 2nd but 18mins behind Bjorn, this was the biggest margin I have ever had to try and make up in the run, I have raced Bjorn before and know he is not a strong runner but needless to say I wasn't happy with that lead, I would have to go for it on the run asap and tried to make time up in the first lap of the run.

The lead dropped to 7min 45sec after the first 21km so I was feeling a little better but still pushed on and caught the tiring Swede at the 27km mark! with relief. It was fantastic to win four New Zealand Ironman titles in a row!

I will now have a short break before building up for the season ahead with my next race being the St Croix Half Ironman on May 3rd.

Kind Regards,
Cameron Brown
