Raid Gauloises elevates into Raid World Championship

The Raid World Championship will replace the Raid Gauloises, adventure racing’s original event franchise created in 1989. The evolution of the event is a result of Saga d’Aventures continued contribution to shaping the future of adventure racing by elevating the sports credibility, increasing its profile for media and the general public, and providing athletes with new and challenging opportunities.

The introduction of the Raid World Championship and the modifications to the X-adventure Raid Series calendar will create a legitimate global competition with a definitive ending race to identify the top teams from around the world representing their country. In 2004, the X-adventure Raid Series will be held in regions around the globe including the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific. The Raid World Championship will announce its venue in October.

As a result of the changes, 2003 will be a year of transition. The Raid Gauloises scheduled for Peru in 2004 will be cancelled to make way for the Raid World Championship.

To compensate for the disruption to the 2003 racing season, the prize money for the remaining X-adventure Raid Series events has increased substantially.

The New Caledonia X-adventure event will now offer $US 20 000 in prize money, distributed amongst the three first teams (1st prize – 10 000 $US, 2nd prize – 6 000 $US and 3rd 4 000 $US).

In addition, the X-adventure Raid Series prize money purse will be elevated to $100 000 distributed among the top 10 teams based on the final overall ranking of the 2003 X-adventure Raid Series.
