Avanti, Docherty join forces

As part of his Olympic pursuit for a gold medal in Beijing 2008, Bevan Docherty has selected Avanti Bikes as his preferred bicycle.

Bevan joins Avanti’s team of Pro Elite riders from today.

Bevan's phenomenal performance recently cannot be understated; with an Olympic Silver and a World Championship under his belt. To continue his momentum Bevan looked to Avanti for his build up to the Olympics. Avanti’s winning bike formula helped Olympic and World Champion Sarah Ulmer and Anna Meares, along with Olympic Champion Hamish Carter achieve amazing success at Athens Olympics 2004.

''I am excited about being part of the Avanti team and are looking forward to having a great season riding terrific products made by a New Zealand company'' said the Silver Olympic Medallist and current World Champion.

The partnership provides Bevan with Avanti’s flagship performance road bike and 100% support for his cycling needs.

“We have been keeping a close watch on Bevan’s career and his succession of wins. When he approached us for support we already knew the synergies this partnership would provide. The expertise Bevan brings to our bike development team is second to none and will prove beneficial for our 2006 range of Avanti bikes.” Said Mr Smith, Avanti Marketing and Sales Manager.

Bevan’s first outing for Avanti will be at the Hawaiian World Cup race in April where he will get his first taste of the Avanti Team Corsa, a super - lightweight Carbon Fibre and Alloy performance bike, fitted with the latest Shimano Dura - Ace groupset.

"The bike looks fantastic, and I can't wait to get into race mode" Docherty said.

Bevan joins Avanti’s team of distinguished New Zealand athletes; Sarah Ulmer, Hamish Carter, Sonia Foote, Evelyn Williamson and Marc Inglis.
