Niue's Rockman Series: 'Inspiration on Multiple Levels'

By Wright Communications

It’s not every day that, in beautiful tropical island setting, competition entrants can rub shoulders with internationally renowned four-time world champion adventure racer Nathan Fa’avae. In Niue, however, the Rockman Series of bike, swim and run races as well as the duathlon and triathlon, offers you exactly that.

Nathan Fa’avae, who has inspired legions of people from around the globe to seek adventure, and to overcome the challenges that come their way, is supporting the tiny nation and all the competitors who enter the Rockman Series with his unique abilities.

“Having someone of Nathan’s calibre and world status agree to be an ambassador for our country is amazing. But that’s Nathan and that’s why we are delighted that he is taking the time out of his busy schedule to help us catapult Niue’s unique Rockman series onto centre stage,” says Felicity Bollen, Chief Executive of Niue Tourism.

On May 16 Niue’s Rockman Series will kick off with the Rock Run marking the event’s fifth consecutive year. Each day brings a new course, highlighting Niue’s land and marine offerings. There is something for everyone with the main Rockman Triathlon of 41km and the small Rockman of 13.3km. Competitors will have the option to complete separate events such as a 10km run, 30km bike and 1km swim.

A professional athlete for over 16 years, Nathan overcame many challenges in early life to represent New Zealand at four different sports and attend 12 World Championships, winning four of them.

In keeping with his life philosophy that ‘It’s about the Adventure’, Nathan is enthused about the Rockman Series. He is also keen to check out other activities on Niue, including swimming, fishing and snorkelling in the 80-metre visibility water and hiking through the unique coral terrain covered in native bush.

“It’s really about getting out there and giving it a go, testing yourself and living the most adventurous life you can. For those who have done a triathlon before, and others who are trying it out for the first time, it will be a real experience. And, you can rely on me for a word of support should you need it!” says Mr Fa’avae.

Air New Zealand flies to Niue twice a week from April to October with affordable packages to Ride the Rock sporting events.
