Revolution 2017 Aims To Be New Zealand's Biggest Ever Cycling Expo

The brand new Revolution Cycling Expo – which aims to be the biggest cycling event of its kind to be held in New Zealand – will throw open its doors for the first time in August 2017 at the ASB Showgrounds and will offer something for everyone who is involved or has an interest in cycling.

The two day event on August 5-6 will be held in the ASB Showground’s largest halls with three main elements, an exhibition area, a live action and riding arena and a major networking offering for the industry in New Zealand.



The show has the full endorsement of the sport’s national governing body, Cycling New Zealand , who will feature on the show’s main exhibition area.

Cycling New Zealand’s CEO, Andrew Matheson, said the organisation was excited to be part of an event that will put cycling in the spotlight and offer something for all types of cyclists – from cutting edge new products for top level riders, to e-bikes and trail rides for recreational and leisure riders.

“As the national body, Cycling New Zealand is involved in all parts of cycling – we’re all about getting more people riding bikes more often. Cycling is one of New Zealanders most popular recreation activities, it will be great to be involved in an event that showcases everything great about our sport,” he said.

There will be zones for casual cycling, serious road cycling, track racing, mountain biking, BMX, e-bikes, clothing, equipment and bike shops, and a Live Arena in Hall 2 where visitors can try the latest manufacturer products as well as watch numerous displays, events and even possible world record attempts.

The August show will provide cycling manufacturers the opportunity to launch their new bikes and products for the forthcoming New Zealand spring and summer, as well as showcasing their existing product ranges to a large public audience. Cycle tourism and event providers from around the country will also be able to market to the whole cycling industry in the country’s largest city at the Revolution event.

Special events will be held during the expo to provide networking opportunities for the industry including industry seminars.

“This event will bring together organisations involved in all facets of cycling, creating a platform for collaboration and driving potentially wide ranging benefits - from individual well-being, health and fitness, through to tourism and economic opportunities, transport and sustainability.

“It’s an exciting new venture that will have immediate benefits for keen cyclists, and potentially longer term benefits for the industry, social and commercial players within in” he said.

Stand space will be priced to be accessible to all those who wish to exhibit and sales for the first event will commence in August this year, with Early Bird offers on stand space designed to give the first event a kick start.

The organisers behind it both have extensive sporting expertise and knowledge and both currently operate businesses in the cycling industry. John McIntyre is a multiple New Zealand motorsport champion who currently runs the Abel Tasman Cycle Challenge and Richard Gee is a former Commonwealth rower who worked for Rowing New Zealand for six years, in UK football, UK and NZ motorsport and who currently runs Wattbike in New Zealand. Both are huge cycling fans.

“Both John and I believe there is a huge opportunity to create a cycling expo that is sustainable and has wide ranging benefits for the sport and industry,” explained Gee. “Cycling is a popular sport and pastime in New Zealand and with the proliferation of more cycle ways for the public and ever busier roads, cycling has a huge future. There are so many strands to cycling and we want Revolution to bring it all together and for the show to become iconic in New Zealand, and attract international as well as national attention.”
