2017 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Set to Take Place on June 11

By Spin PR

The 37th Annual Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon is set to take place on Sunday, June 11, 2017 in San Francisco, according to race producer IMG, the global leader in sports, events, media and fashion. The random drawing will officially open on Wednesday, September 14, 2016. Athletes capable of taking on this iconic race are encouraged to register early as the race fills up quickly. The bucket list triathlon will draw more than 2,000 racers from around the world, including 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champions Joe Maloy and Holly Lawrence, both returning to defend their titles.

“Few, if any, triathlons can compare to the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and the challenges it presents to its competitors,” said 2016 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Champion and recent Rio Olympian Joe Maloy. “One minute you're sitting comfortably on the San Francisco Belle and the next you're plowing through the San Francisco Bay's infamous currents. I'm already looking forward to the challenge of defending my 2016 title at next year’s Escape.”

Top triathletes from around the globe will take over the streets and waters of San Francisco for the 2017 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Showcasing the beauty of San Francisco, triathletes will embark on a grueling 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the shoreline of Marina Green, an 18 mile twisting bike ride through the Presidio, and an eight mile trail run out to Baker Beach and up the infamous 400-plus step Sand Ladder. Fans can experience the excitement at the Marina Green, where the swim starts and ends, as well as where the athlete transition area and finish line are easily visible.

Athletes interested in taking on the challenge can register for the random drawing registration beginning Wednesday, September 14 through Monday, October 17.
