Scott Sports joins team Absa Cape Epic

By Cape Epic

The tech zones at the Absa Cape Epic are scenes of great drama: shredded tyres, broken rims, snapped spokes, damaged derailleurs and more have been replaced or fixed at these points.

Many a rider has been saved from an unfortunate DNF* by the helping hands of the mechanics at the tech zones, where they stock spare parts and generally help riders. Besides these zones –
located at the water points – riders are not allowed to get any outside assistance other than from fellow riders.

Now the tech zones are going to be even more sought after: renowned bike and gear manufacturer Scott Sports has come on board the Absa Cape Epic as the Untamed African MTB race’s official Tech Zone Partner.

“This is great news,” said Absa Cape Epic commercial manager Brett Sparg. “Scott Sports is a world-leading mountain bike brand and will bring that excellence and commitment to the tech zones. It’ll be very reassuring for our riders to know that we have a company of this standing running and equipping the tech zones”.

Scott Tech Zones will provide full technical support to all riders participating in case of any mechanical issues during the race.

Scott Brand Manager Joggie Prinsloo added: “We are proud to be associated with the Absa Cape Epic and are looking forward to growing the relationship while helping all riders finish the race through being the Official Tech Zone Partner. We will be providing a complimentary basic support service zone at each race village on the main field for all Scott riders throughout the event.”

Scott has a long history of sponsoring leading competitors in the Absa Cape Epic. In 2017 Olympic gold medallist and World Champion Nino Schurter, a longtime member of the Scott team, will be aiming to add his first Cape Epic triumph to his many successes. He will be riding with fellow Swiss mountain biker Matthias Stirnemann for Scott-Odlo MTB Racing Team.
