ANACONDA races toward New Zealand
By Over The Top Adventures Limited

Australia’s premier adventure racing events – the Anaconda Adventure Race – has crossed the Tasman and in 2010 will include a new and equally exciting event at Waihi in the New Zealand North Island, giving you the Anaconda Adventure Race New Zealand (AARNZ).

These are no ordinary adventure races and have been taking Australia (and in fact the World) by storm with a recent event in Western Australia attracting a mammoth 1564 competitors (before entries were closed  off) making it the Worlds Biggest Adventure Race. This same racing format will be brought to the New Zealand event and is sure to result in something equally impressive.

Taking place in and around the iconic gold mining township of Waihi in the Southern Coromandel, the Anaconda Adventure Race New Zealand (AARNZ) will take you on an unforgettable adventure from the coast at Waihi Beach to the rim of the mighty Martha Mine and our spectacular finish line in central Waihi. Along the way you will run along remote rocky coastlines, along cliff tops and down hidden beaches; mountain bike along rolling single track and quaint country roads; paddle on a scenic inland waterway and swimming in one of the most picturesque bays imaginable.

"Combine all this with an adventure expo with plenty of kids entertainment, sponsors stands, race commentary, event bar, food and more all at the Adventure Expo in Waihi and you are set for an awesome weekend. This is one hell of an event." say the organisers.

The Anaconda Adventure Race phenomenon started with a one off event held in Lorne on the Victorian south coast in December 2005 which attracted an unprecedented 930 competitors. From there the event has sprouted into a series of 4 races held in spectacular locations around the country including:

•Race 1: Gold Coast, Queensland. September 21st. A surprising course combining the beautiful beaches of the Gold Coast with the rugged (and hilly !) hinterland
•Race 2: Augusta, Western Australia. November 8th. A wild part of the world with rugged rocky coastline, thick local bush and striking inlets making it a favourite amongst competitors.
•Race 3: Lorne, Victoria. December 6th. A scenic course in and around the picturesque township of Lorne and the Otway Ranges on the Great Ocean Road providing plenty of challenges.
•Race 4: WAIHI, NEW ZEALAND. APRIL 24th. A new course in the adventure racing homeland… expect plenty of challenges, wild scenery and landscapes the whole way.
•Race 5: Forster, New South Wales. May 1st–2nd. The series grand finale in the beautiful Great Lakes National Park north of Sydney. With untouched wilderness, stunning beaches and lush vegetation there is no better racing around!
Some of the unique features about each race being:

•The event may be done as a relay team (as well as by an individual). No longer do you need to be a super human and have all the gear to be part of the action, Anaconda Adventure Races can be done by a team of up to 4 people so you do one leg each.
•All events are held in simply spectacular locations, with courses visiting the most beautiful locations and scenery around
•The event is based around a massive Adventure Expo with sponsors stands, food and event bar, kids entertainment, MC commentary and plenty more. So you can bring the whole family to enjoy the whole weekend
•Terrific support and give aways by Anaconda, with each competitor receiving high tech race t-shirt, hydration backpack (or other give away) and logistical support around the course
•Each leg of the race is achievable by anyone of average fitness, putting the event within reach of day to day athletes resulting in many teams of work mates and friends coming together to enjoy the adventure racing experience.
All events in the series have the same structure and format but each with their own beauties, challenges and rewards. So come and tackle ‘The Anaconda’ at Waihi and give yourself something to be proud of.
