Canterbury orienteers qualify for Long distance Orienteering final
Canterbury orienteers Chris Forne and Lara Prince have qualified for the toughest of the World Orienteering Championships finals in Trondheim, Norway - the Long distance - both finishing in the top 15 of their heats.
It was business as usual for former World Adventure racing and Rogaining champion Chris Forne as he qualified for his third final in as many days, although it was the closest he came to missing the cut.
Peninsula and Plains Orienteers club-mate Lara Prince ran a brave and gutsy race to be rewarded with her first qualification to a final, after missing out in the Sprint and Middle distance races both this year, and in 2006, her other appearance for New Zealand.
Orienteers now have a rest day before the Long distance final on Thursday, and for Chris Forne and Ross Morrison, the Middle distance final on Saturday.
The in-form and always indomitable Forne will be looking to improve on his best, and New Zealand men's best of 17th place, that he achieved in 2009.
In a rugged race through strength sapping marshes and soft ground, other New Zealanders James Bradshaw and Thomas Reynolds, alongside Rita Homes, were outside the top 15 qualifying mark.
