Multisport Champion tackles Speight's Coast to Coast for Second time
By Whole Nine Yards PR

Dan Moore, Curriculum Manager for Outward Bound, is again looking forward to competing in the 2012 edition of the Speight’s Coast to Coast to be held this weekend.

With a rigorous training regime, including up to 20 hours a week, Dan hopes to rank in the top five in the gruelling one day individual event – topping his second place ranking in last year’s two-day event.

”The outdoors and adventure have always been very special to me, they have helped me push personal limits and feel challenged. Multisport offers a lot of these things and is always set in stunning scenery with a great bunch of other competitors,” says Dan.

Dan is based at the Outward Bound School in Anakiwa, which provides the perfect training ground for the event. His passion for the outdoors and extensive multisport experience are exactly the right credentials for a top programme leader and course designer at Outward Bound. He believes the key to succeeding in this year’s Coast to Coast is focussing on endurance and strength.

“Outward Bound courses are the perfect platform to develop skills such as perseverance and goal-setting. In the multisport area these skills prove not only to be relevant but they are key.”

This year sees the 30th anniversary of the legendary endurance event, dubbed the Longest Day, which traverses the South Island, from Kumara Beach on the Tasman Sea to Sumner Beach on the Pacific Ocean. The Longest Day race includes a 67km Kayak, 36km Run and 140km Cycle

Dan is supported in this weekend’s race by Outward Bound, where he will be a running, cycling and kayaking mobile billboard for the organisation. He is passionate about Outward Bound which this year also celebrates an anniversary - 50 years of helping over 50, 000 Kiwis to complete a course.
